Biography: Michael Kitudewa Sozi was a loving and dedicated father. Michael Kitudewa Sozi was born on 4th June 1930 to Mikairi Nankebe Kongo Makonzi and Kasalina Namirembe Nanfuka. He married Miriam Norah Namugenyi in 1962 and they had five children - Catherine, Elizabeth, Michael, Paulo and Nasozi. Education: He attended Mengo Junior Secondary School and Kings College Budo after which he completed his education at Makerere University for his Bachelors degree and University of Edinburgh for his Masters degree in History with Political Science. Career: Michael started his career as a teacher at Makerere College School, where he subsequently became Headmaster. He was Senior Education Officer in charge of Secondary Schools Administration, Ministry of Education in 1963. In 1964 he was appointed as the first Ugandan Chief Education Officer. He then became Director of Centre for Continuing Education, and subsequently Secretary to the Council at Makerere University Uganda. In 1974 he was forced to flee from Uganda to Nairobi with his family due to turbulent times during the Idi Amin regime. Michael was appointed Regional Director for Africa region for the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) in Nairobi in 1976, and subsequently transferred to IPPFs international office in London where he became Director for Africa and the Maghreb countries. Michael retired from IPPF in 1992, at which time he returned to Uganda. He was appointed Secretary to the Buganda Land Board in Kabaka's government - where he served until 2002. Passionate about classical and choral music, Michael was founder and conductor of the famous Budo Nightingales Choir in 1949. He joined the Namirembe Choir when he was 6 years old, and under the tutorship of the late Mr. Lwasa, he mastered both the piano and organ - a hobby that he shared with all his children. From 1995-2009 he was Chairman Namirembe Cathedral Choir, and from 1996 Chairman of the Cathedral organ rehabilitation committee. He also served as overall administrative head of the three Cathedral Choirs Sickness: After a serious road traffic accident in 1999, the last ten years of his life presented him with several challenges. Multiple fractures and a brain injury left him with some disability, and progressive vascular dementia. Others: He was Omukulu Owessigga Kakembo e Ziranumbu and Treasurer of the Njovu Clan Executive Council. May his soul rest in Eternal Peace |
